Innovation in the cosmetics sector does not depend solely on developing new products, but also on the ability to do so within an increasingly complex and demanding regulatory environment.
In a feature published by Cinco Días on the regulatory challenges facing the cosmetics industry in Europe, Belén Pablos, Managing Partner of the Public Law practice at Lener, analyses the impact of regulatory overlap on laboratories and companies in the sector.
As Belén explains, the challenge does not necessarily lie in increasing regulation, but rather in providing better support to companies in its practical implementation: "Ideally, public authorities should support laboratories with direct assistance to comply with the regulations, rather than introducing more regulation, thereby reducing costs and driving innovation".
The feature addresses key issues such as the coexistence of cosmetics, environmental, and sustainability regulations, the impact on R&D processes, and the effect of digital misinformation on the public perception of risk. A particularly relevant debate in a sector subject to intense regulatory pressure, where innovation, legal certainty, and scientific evidence must advance in a coherent manner.
