In her latest opinion piece for Cinco Días, Sofía García, a lawyer in Lener’s Information Security and Data Protection department, analyses the implications of the Digital Omnibus, the European Union initiative aimed at simplifying the ever-expanding regulatory framework for technology, and its direct impact on the development and adoption of artificial intelligence.
As Sofía points out, the success of this initiative will depend not only on the simplification measures driven by Brussels, but also on the Member States’ ability to implement them consistently and to provide the authorities with the necessary resources to ensure effective oversight.
The challenge lies in moving towards a clearer and more efficient regulatory framework, capable of fostering innovation without compromising the safeguards necessary for the safe, ethical and responsible development of AI.
